FCM/DPS Procedure for Disposal of Regulated Medical Waste/ Bio-Hazard Waste

Safety Precautions: Please use appropriate personal protective equipment when handling biohazard waste: gloves, glasses. 

HOUSEKEEPING:

  • All materials containing blood and bodily fluids are to be placed in red Biohazard bags. Sharps are to be placed into sharps containers. Bags and containers are available in Vodra Housekeeping cage. 
  • For disposal call Public Safety at ext. 3128 and meet at GSUB Lower Level A cage area. 
  • Do not place red Biohazard bags in regular trash.

PUBLIC SAFETY:

  • Dispatcher/ Supervisor will assign Officer. 
  • Supervisor will sign out the Biohazard Bin Key (Key Tag # 153) at the DPS Admin Office Key Box. 
  • The assigned Security Officer will meet Housekeeping staff at GSUB lower level A cage area to provide access to bin. 
  • Biohazard Bin is located at GSUB Parking Garage – Lower Level A cage area. 
  • The assigned Security Officer will secure bin and cage area and sign Key Tag # 153 back in at the DPS Admin Office Key Box. 

LOCATION: GSUB Lower Level A – cage area near car entrance.
