The Counselor Education program is seeking 18 Â鶹´«Ã½ Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling students to support their internship experiences. Students who are chosen to participate in this program will receive a $10,000 stipend during their internships ($5,000 during Internship I and $5,000 during Internship II). Students taking their practicum in Fall 2020 are eligible to apply for Cohort 7 and students taking their Practicum on Spring 2021 are eligible to apply for Cohort 8. The deadline to apply for the program is March 22rd, 2021 for Cohort 8 applicants.

Â鶹´«Ã½'s Counselor Education Department has received a $1,613,131 grant from the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training program for the next four years. This project will support an advanced training program with final internships for 98 diverse master’s degree students in two tracks: Clinical Mental Health Counseling (community agencies, hospitals, and private practice) and School Counseling (elementary, middle, and high schools).

The overarching goal of this project is to meet the increasing demand for behavioral health care services in medically underserved communities by training and graduating a diverse body of behavioral health professionals well-prepared to serve populations across the lifespan. The 98 students selected will gain first-hand experiences in prevention and clinical intervention to help meet the behavioral health care needs of clients across the lifespan by completing advanced clinical internships at integrated health care or inter-professional and team-based care sites in underserved communities.

Dr. Vaibhavee Agaskar, the Primary Investigator of this grant, will serve as the Project Director.  Leticia Puga-O'brien, HRSA Program Assistant, is responsible for assisting in this project.
