The Men of Color Initiative will address academic and social challenges through mentoring, peer connections, and educational and social engagement opportunities.
Goals
Increase the enrollment and matriculation of underrepresented students. Increase retention of underrepresented students. Improve the overall grade point average of underrepresented students. Increase the graduation rate of underrepresented students.
Core Values
- Academic Excellence: Provides supplemental literacy, writing, math, and study-skill activities to help pre-college students transition to college academic life during the summer and assist enrolled MOC participants with RPG (retention, progression, and graduation) throughout the academic year.
- Mentoring Support: Connects MOC students to adults and peers who encourage achievement, foster positive attitudes and a sense of belonging through personal and academic support while reinforcing RPG. Makes available internal and external resources, information, and learning tools to enhance students’ academic and social successes.
- Social Engagement: Our office represents five core values of equitable relationships: respect for diversity, openness, equality, empowerment (redirected power), and an asset-based approach to work. The assets' range encompasses community relationships, social networks, and community and campus services, activities, and facilities.
- Leadership Development: Provides multi-faceted professional and soft skills forums to help develop and strengthen participants’ leadership skills.
