Acebo receives 18-month contract extension from �鶹��ý

The board of trustees announced a contract extension Dec. 9 for interim President Andres Acebo. Salary terms were not disclosed. The New �鶹��ý City University Board of Trustees voted unanimously (7-0) for an 18-month extension for Interim President Andrés Acebo at Monday evening’s meeting. Acebo, who has served as interim president since being appointed to a two-year term on January 17th, 2023, will now serve in the post through June 30th, 2026, with an option for a one-year renewal through June 30th, 2027. Acebo given 18-month extension as interim president at �鶹��ý

Andrés Acebo had his contract as interim president at New �鶹��ý City University extended for 18 months by the �鶹��ý Board of Trustees Monday night.

The extension will begin on Jan. 1, taking Acebo through June 30, 2026 – at a minimum. There is a provision for an additional one-year extension at that time.

Acebo has done an incredible job since being named interim president in January of 2023 in the middle of a financial crisis that was threatening to shut down the school. He was named No. 1 on the list for higher education in 2024. �鶹��ý by Tom Bergeron.

�鶹��ý appoints Dr. Esther Nir as interim dean of the College of Professional Studies

Dr. Esther Nir, Professor of Criminal Justice at New �鶹��ý City University was appointed as the new Interim Dean of the College of Professional Studies, the university announced on Dec. 5.

Since joining the �鶹��ý community in 2016, Nir has served the university in various roles. While working as a faculty member in the Department of Criminal Justice, she founded the �鶹��ý Mock Trial Team and has guided the team as its coach since 2017.

�鶹��ý is best for Vets for third year

New �鶹��ý City University (�鶹��ý), led by its Office of Military & Veterans Services, has been recognized by the Military Times by being named to its 2024 “Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges” rankings, released this month. It is the third consecutive year �鶹��ý has been recognized as a Best for Vets honoree. �鶹��ý is one of only three four-year public universities in New �鶹��ý to be honored. �鶹��ý has been honored each year since 2022 by the Military Times, a source for independent news and information for service members and their families, with inclusion in an annual list recognizing the top colleges and universities for military service members and veterans. New �鶹��ý City University and the �鶹��ý City Board of Education signed an academic articulation agreement to strengthen visual and performing arts last week. The district will lease the upper floors of the university’s Grossnickle Hall, for approximately $543,406 next year and about $1 million the following year, and have access to other �鶹��ý facilities and equipment through this groundbreaking agreement.

New �鶹��ý City University (�鶹��ý) alumna Bertha Dolores Wilson Miller ‘87 has a century’s worth of experience and memories, as the alumna celebrated living a full life on her 100th birthday on June 8. Miller reminisced about her time as an �鶹��ý student and described it as a “crossroads” moment in her professional career.
