Academic Affairs Updates from the Office of the Provost Part I: Organizational Changes in Academic Affairs

Dear Members of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Community:

This week and next, I will provide a series of updates regarding changes in Academic Affairs. These changes respond to our fiscal crisis and position us to focus more clearly upon our mission as a minority-serving institution committed to supporting our unique student population.

These changes reflect a reduction in administrative layers and renewed focus on student success and retention. The updates will include the following:

  • Organizational Changes in Academic Affairs
  • Changes within the Provost’s office
  • Leadership Changes in the Colleges and Schools
  • New and Continuing Roles and Responsibilities in Academic Units
  • Strategic Support for Graduate Education and Adult Learning
  • Opportunities Ahead at Fort Monmouth
  • Academic System

Organizational Changes in Academic Affairs

Over the course of this academic year, we have made changes regarding the structure of Academic Affairs. These changes reflect our continued commitment to student success and retention.

Below I’ve provided organizational charts to reflect the former structure and the current structure, and I will highlight some of the significant changes.

First, Academic Affairs has added key units that previously reported to other areas. The Registrar’s office is now under Academic Affairs. The work of this office is the heartbeat and central nervous system of academic programming, and I am thrilled to work with our University Registrar, . and his team. 

We also added units directly related to student success: University AdvisementOSPASCENDYouth CorpsPre-College/GEAR UP, and the TRIO Learning Community (TLC). 

Our focus must be on student success and retention and having these units within Academic Affairs helps us to stay even more connected between the Colleges and our support systems.

Moving forward, we will work to ensure that the great work of these student success initiatives inform our work within our three Colleges and School of Business. We will also work to ensure that our Colleges and School inform these initiatives regarding the real and potential impact their efforts have on our students.
